I began making jewelry seriously, in 1991 after taking an Arrowmont Class, and I’ve followed an art career ever since. My art journey has taken me through paper making, mixed media, acrylics, fiber dying, and lots of forms of metal work. I yearned for a life in the arts when I was a kid, but back then I didn’t have the support to choose art as a way of life. You know what they say, “you can’t make a living as an artist!”, but I want to tell you that you can make a wonderful LIFE!
I love working with kids, before they hide away their imagination. I’ve taught children’s classes at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN, and I currently teach art and drama classes at my studio. I think it is the excitement that I have for art that the kids respond to the most.
In my work I think I connect with people’s inner child. Lately I have focused on abstract watercolors with hand-lettered quotations and abstract acrylics, and I still make costume jewelry, moving away from metal work jewelry when I began painting more. I love altered art and occasionally find myself dabbling there too. Future plans are back to metal work with some lightweight copper and torch-fired enamels, with plans to use them in wind chimes and jewelry.
My art is sometimes described as passionate with lots of energy and vivid use of color. which pretty much describes me, colorful with energy and passion. At 40 I married the love of my life and had a beautiful daughter, so I have lots to be energetic and passionate about! Surely, I am blessed!
